Kun Shan University Strengthens Taiwan–Vietnam Higher Education Exchange as Vietnam’s FPT University Can Tho Visits to Deepen Cooperation on the New International Industrial Talent Education Program

To deepen higher education exchange between Taiwan and Vietnam and promote cooperation in the International Industrial Talent Education Program (New Specialized Program) and Chinese language education, a delegation from FPT University Can Tho, Vietnam, led by Vice President Hoang Van That, visited Kun Shan University on October 14. The visit built on the opportunity created in March this year, when Dean Feng Chi-Hung of the International Foundation Program and the College of Smart Living Management visited Vietnam to promote the New Specialized Program and Chinese language education. Through meetings and on-site visits, the two sides exchanged views on student recruitment for the program, Chinese language training, and student support, allowing the visiting delegation to gain a deeper understanding of Taiwan’s higher education environment and the university’s strengths in talent development.

Director of International Affairs Chen Hao-Yang warmly welcomed the delegation and noted that the university currently has approximately 2,800 international students, including 1,200 Vietnamese students, providing a strong foundation for educational exchange between Taiwan and Vietnam. He emphasized that the university is actively promoting the New Specialized Program and hopes this visit will help build a shared understanding and further improve Chinese language training and student learning support mechanisms. By integrating professional education with language learning, the university aims to create more opportunities for Vietnamese students to pursue higher education in Taiwan.

Regarding progress in cooperation on the New Specialized Program, both sides are continuing to establish a Chinese language teaching site at FPT University Can Tho’s Can Tho campus. The site is expected to officially begin classes on October 19, helping students develop Chinese communication skills before coming to Taiwan. During the meeting, Dean Feng Chi-Hung explained that Kun Shan University serves as the Deputy Coordinator-General of the Vietnam base for the New Specialized Program and is responsible for promoting the program and Chinese language education across six provinces and regions in southern Vietnam. The university will continue to integrate regional cooperation resources and advance recruitment outreach, Chinese language education, and preparations for students pursuing further education in Taiwan, strengthening the base’s role as a platform for regional promotion and cross-border talent development.

Dean Feng Chi-Hung also pointed out that establishing a Chinese language teaching site is only the starting point of the partnership. Continued support from FPT University Can Tho will be needed to track students’ class attendance, language proficiency test registration and pass rates, and the application rate for the New Specialized Program. These indicators will help both sides assess the effectiveness of Chinese language training and students’ progress in preparing for further study. Through sustained cooperation, both sides hope to help students gradually improve their Chinese proficiency and ensure that the courses deliver tangible results. This, in turn, is expected to increase students’ willingness and readiness to apply for New Specialized Programs at universities across Taiwan, expanding opportunities for Vietnamese students to pursue higher education in Taiwan.

In addition to cooperation in Chinese language education, the delegation visited the International Coffee Certification Center and the Electric Vehicle Chip Module and Charging Pile R&D and Manufacturing Talent Development Base. Through guided tours, the visitors gained first-hand insight into how the university integrates professional courses, practical training, and industry needs to cultivate talent with strong workplace competitiveness. These educational and training highlights will also serve as important references when introducing opportunities for higher education in Taiwan to Vietnamese students in the future.

The visit by FPT University Can Tho not only strengthened the existing foundation for exchange between the two institutions but also advanced practical cooperation under the New Specialized Program. Kun Shan University will continue to fulfill its role as Deputy Coordinator-General of the program’s Vietnam base, integrating teaching resources and industry networks while working with FPT University Can Tho to help more Vietnamese students enhance their skills and deepen cross-border talent development cooperation between Taiwan and Vietnam.
